Face masks become mandatory at JT Hughes Telford & Shrewsbury Dealerships
Following the government announcement, it will be mandatory for you to wear a face mask when entering our dealerships at Shrewsbury and Telford ( excluding Newtown), and this will apply to sales, service, and parts customers.
The wearing of face masks is designed to offer protection to the wearer and all those around them, so face coverings are now mandatory in dealership showrooms.
We have from 1 June operated a safe working environment which means that all JT Hughes employees follow Covid-19 practices to reduce proximity and duration of contact. Businesses generally are already subject to legal obligations to protect their staff under existing employment law. Our staff are separated by perspex screens, and our front-facing team do not need to wear a face-covering when they are behind a screen talking to a customer. Once they move away from the screen and are involved in a customer handover, for example, they will be required to wear a face covering.
If a customer refuses to wear a face-covering (and has no proof of exemption), we reserve the right to refuse entry to our showroom, service or parts departments.
Face coverings should cover the nose and mouth and fit securely against the side of the face. Washing your hands before you touch the mask and put it on is essential and the mask should remain on – it shouldn’t be dangling from one ear or pushed down on to the neck, for example. You should also wash your hands before taking the mask off and after you’ve removed it. Face masks can be ordered from a large number of high street names and online marketplaces.
Face coverings will not be mandatory for:
- Anyone under the age of 11
- Those with disabilities or certain health conditions, such as respiratory or cognitive impairments that make it difficult for them to wear a face-covering
Thank you for your co-operation as it means we can continue to serve you safely.

We hope that you and your loved ones are well during these challenging times.
At JT Hughes, we have now been closed for six weeks. We feel this has been necessary: Given the choice between potentially contributing to the spread of the virus to ‘protect our business’, or compromising our revenues while helping to slow down the infection rate and protecting our customers, employees and the wider community - we would always, of course, choose the latter.
The time has now come to focus on the future. We want to re-open as safely and responsibly as possible, but appreciate that our customers will have servicing requirements which they need to meet.
Returning to work sensibly - Workshops open from 4th May 2020
A carefully planned return will allow us to re-commence serving our customers, while also protecting them, and our staff, as much as possible.
We plan to open JT Hughes Honda, Hyundai and Mitsubishi service centres on Monday, 4th May, so that our skeleton staff team can run a reduced service to support key workers, including NHS staff and the police.
Our workshop will also attend to emergency and essential requirements, including breakdowns and MOTs
Non-key workers can schedule a service or MOT online for a future available date. Our service advisors will confirm your preferred date when we re-open.

What about car sales ?
New and used cars have been available to buy via the JT Hughes website, although delivery has been limited to key workers since the start of the lockdown. We are currently working on plans to re-open car sales, but this will be scheduled at a later date as part of the staged re-opening process.
Concerned about car loan payments?
Customers who are struggling to meet their car finance payments due to coronavirus may be able to apply for a 1 to 3-month freeze, according to new proposals announced by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
If you've got a car loan – including PCP, lease or HP contracts – and are struggling to keep up your repayments, we advise you to contact your loan provider to see what assistance they can provide.
We will continue to keep you updated over the coming weeks. Please check this page and our social media channels for further announcements.

Since the news of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) broke, we continue to learn and respond to secure the health and safety of our employees, valued customers and the Shropshire and Mid-Wales communities in which we do business.
We would like to take a moment to share an update on behalf of JT Hughes Group
Over the past few weeks, we have taken precautions outlined by our Governments and the World Health Organization and we will continue to be supportive of measures that prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Our physical showrooms across Shropshire & Mid-Wales will remain temporarily closed until the end of the shutdown period.
We have contacted or in the process of doing so all customers that are currently expecting delivery of a new or used car, have a vehicle onsite for service or have an upcoming booking with an update to make suitable arrangements to support everyone.
If any ‘key worker’ has concerns about vehicle servicing or any issues with their vehicles, please contact us, and we will do all we can to help while respecting the necessary health protection procedures.
While our showrooms are still temporarily closed, we remain digitally open to serve and assist you with both new and pre-owned vehicles and allowing online service bookings for future available dates. On this website, and you can browse our complete vehicle range at leisure with full walk-around videos and reserve a vehicle if you wish to do so.
As the country moves into this next phase in the fight against COVID-19, we ask for your patience while we work to continue to support you our customers.
Updated: 31st March 2020.
We do have a very small team working from home to keep the information and offers up to date on our website and respond to any enquiries, but our response times will be much slower than usual. Thank you for bearing with us at this difficult time.

Updated: 28th March 2020.
Like all businesses within the UK and indeed, worldwide, we are closely monitoring the impact that COVID-19 is having on our business, our colleagues, customers and business partners.
We are very much aware and respectful of the Government’s message that all UK citizens and businesses must play their part to protect the most vulnerable in our society and to ensure that the NHS has the ability to care for the inevitable, increased number of patients that will be affected by the virus in the coming days and weeks.
For these reasons, we have taken the decision to close all JT Hughes Showrooms in Shrewsbury, Telford and Newtown, from the close of business today, Tuesday 24th March 2020
Our Service workshops are also temporarily closed. You can schedule a service or MOT online for a future available date, and our service advisors will confirm your preferred date when we re-open.
MOT Notice: All cars, vans and motorcycles which usually would require an MOT test will be given a six-month exemption from MOT testing from 30th March. Your vehicle must be kept in a roadworthy condition, you can be prosecuted for driving an unsafe vehicle.
The safety and wellbeing of our customers, colleagues and their families, will always come first. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your understanding on this matter.
We will continue to keep you updated as this situation develops. Please check this page and our social media channels for further announcements.

Update: 18th March 2020
Due to COVID – 19 we are closing our Sales departments temporarily on Sundays
We have also suspended wash and vac service for all customers to avoid the congregation of individuals.
With recent events and serious concerns regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) top of mind, we recognize our responsibility to share the steps we’re taking at our dealerships to help keep you, our employees, and our community safe and healthy.
Following the statement from the Prime Minister yesterday, we are taking the Government’s advice very seriously and have implemented changes across our dealerships in Shrewsbury, Telford and Newtown to ensure the health and safety of our customers and employees.
First and foremost, we are in the business of serving people, and amid this outbreak, it is important to us that we allow as much flexibility for our customers who are servicing or purchasing a vehicle. In addition, we have added at-home services for your convenience that include:
- You can book your car service online without the need to visit our dealerships
- Should you be concerned about dropping your car in for a service, we can arrange to pick up your vehicle and drop it back to your house. (Please be patient as demand will be high)
- Your vehicle high-touch areas (steering wheels, gear sticks, door handles inside and outside, paddle shifts, car keys or starting buttons) will be expertly sanitised once your car service is complete and returned to you
- Should you be in the process of buying a new or used vehicle, all our vehicles can be seen on our website, with full walk-around videos.
- You can reserve a used car online to secure the vehicle subject to agreeing terms
- Flexible and transparent negotiation of a new or used vehicle purchase from the comfort of your own home
- Schedule an at-home test drive. Please contact us to arrange a home demonstration
We advise all our visitors to read the NHS advice website, which includes valuable information about how to avoid catching and spreading COVID-19. Should you believe that you have the virus, their advice is to self-isolate and call 111.
We have more than adequate supplies of hand-wash, soap and water for you to keep your hands clean and have bins all around site for the disposal of any tissues for coughs and sneezes.
If you have your own bottle of hand-sanitiser, please bring it with you.
We do have toilet paper on-site for our own facilities. Please use only as required for the benefit of all.
Our staff will not be offended should you wish to avoid or decline any shaking of hands as a greeting.
It is also critical to give you as much information as possible about the procedures we follow concerning our sanitary environment.
We have been in business since 1971 and have always upheld the highest standards.
Our showrooms and vehicles are cleaned and sanitized daily as part of our normal course of business.
Over the past few weeks, we have stepped up the frequency of vigorous disinfecting, especially in high-use areas, in addition to adding resources like hand-sanitizer throughout our dealerships in Shrewsbury, Telford and Newtown.
We’re also ensuring our employees have the information they need to stay healthy or stay home if they aren’t feeling well.
All of these practices and our business decisions are informed by guidance from the UK government along with advice from our local health authority.
Based on the guidance we’ve received, our own preparedness and the current state of operations, we are confident our dealerships will continue to be safe, and we remain open for business.
Thank you for your continued loyalty. We are looking forward to seeing you again.
