The Mitsubishi L200 is the UK’s best selling pick-up and an Auto Express ‘Pickup of the Year’. But the latest L200 - which recently arrived at our JT Hughes Mitsubishi showrooms - proves that the model is about much more than popularity or accolades.
Mitsubishi revealed the full extent of the L200’s powers last month, ahead of its UK debut. It is a truly special machine which Mitsubishi has announced offers a best-in-class carrying capacity that makes it the only pick-up-able to tow 3.5 tonnes on tarmac in four-wheel drive.
Whether you use the L200 predominantly for work or play, this is a vehicle which offers unprecedented power, as opposed to simply being styled as a tough off-roader. In industries such as construction and agriculture, where having the necessary capability and control is crucial to ‘getting the job done’, the L200 raises the bar and broadens the horizons.
How has this ground-breaking towing capacity been achieved? It’s down to the bolstering of the chassis’ most important load-bearing areas, and the development of the advanced Trailer Stability Assist system, which prevents the trailer from snaking.
Add in a new heavy-duty towbar, and some outstanding results can be achieved which can make all the difference when a commercial or industrial task requires you to take on ‘that little bit extra’. With three-axle braked trailers, 3.5 tonnes can be safely towed by the new L200, while with one- or two-axled braked trailers, loads of 3.1 tonnes are possible. In cases where a trailer isn’t braked, it is still possible to tow 0.75 tonnes with the L200.
It all adds up to a vehicle that offers capabilities which can negate the need to call in another vehicle for outside help. For competitive industries in which keeping overheads down remains a constant concern, the new L200 can be a cost saver, as well as the key to independence.
Mitsubishi has confirmed that the bed payload of the latest L200 will be 590kg at its maximum towing weight, another statistic which gives it the edge over every competitor in its class. Meanwhile, a Super Select II 4WD System is designed to complement the increased towing capacity. This innovation can ensure the comfortable negotiation of all terrain types in any weather.
The latest L200 is the continuation of a rich legacy. Mitsubishi Motors has a history steeped in 4x4s and pick-ups, and several Mitsubishi cars can also be used for towing. You can view a comprehensive guide to the towing capabilities of the complete Mitsubishi range here: L200 drivers can tell you just how much security and stability the vehicle can provide when towing – from horse boxes to skips and boats. The new L200 continues to push the boundaries and multiply the possibilities.
