Popular questions about car valuation
What do I need to bring with me for a car valuation appointment ?

Your car. It may sound obvious, but you’ll need to be able to get your car to the appointment. We don't currently offer a collection service.

The V5 logbook/registration certificate. This must be registered in the name of the current keeper. If the V5 logbook/registration certificate is still in the owner's maiden name, you will need to bring a copy of your marriage certificate.

Two forms of identification. One must be an original photo ID (such as a passport) and one should be a proof of address item (accepted forms include a utility bill or council tax letter dated within the last 9 months). These must match the name and address on the vehicle logbook.

All service history and MOT certificates if available.

Both sets of car keys. Unless you've told us otherwise, the valuation provided assumes you have 2 sets of keys for your vehicle. If you've only got 1 key, the price we offer you after inspection may be reduced.

Bank details. So we can pay you for your car. The account has to be in the name of the registered keeper.
Finance settlement letter. If the vehicle has any finance outstanding we need a letter with the settlement figure from the finance company to be able to buy the vehicle.

Any extras that we’ll need. Such as the locking wheel nut for the alloy wheels where fitted, any detachable fascias and security codes for the radio, the security code for obtaining replacement keys and any discs required for the satellite navigation system.

How does your process work?

What a great question! We show a 360-degree view of our cars online on our search page and offer delivery right to your driveway.

Once you've decided on a vehicle, we'll ask you to select your method of payment, including whether you'd like to part-exchange your current vehicle as a down payment.

Finally, you will decide whether you want your new car delivered or picked up from a JT Hughes dealership in Shrewsbury, Telford, or Newtown. You'll have 14 days after receiving your vehicle to decide if it's the right vehicle for you!

If you change your mind within 14 days, we'll accept it back and issue a full refund under the terms of our 14-day money-back guarantee.

How does the 14-Day Money Back Guarantee work?

At JT Hughes, we understand the need for confidence when making your car purchase online. That's why we are delighted to introduce our 14-day money-back guarantee policy for your peace of mind, available on all of our used cars which have been purchased online.  If, for whatever reason, you are not completely happy with your new used car, just let us know within the 14 days from invoice date and we will give you a full refund and cancel any finance agreement.

How accurate is a car valuation?

We use current market data and a number of other factors to provide a fair price. We take into account the car's mileage, age, the number of previous owners and the information you provide about the car's condition.

Will modifications to my car affect its value?

Modifications aren’t factored into our valuations as we don’t accept modified cars for part-exchange.

Does my vehicle need an MOT certificate?

You can sell your car to us no matter its tax or MOT status. However, when our system produces an online valuation for you it assumes that your vehicle has a minimum of 3 months remaining on the MOT.

During the vehicle inspection, if we discover that the vehicle has a short (less than 3 months) or invalid MOT, this may negatively affect your final offer. This is because our vehicle inspector is unable to accurately gauge that the vehicle meets the minimum safety level required by law.
